Read Santa Clara's Family Literacy Program

Listening to a "Big Book" story.

Adult learners in the library's Read Santa Clara literacy program with a child under six years of age can also participate in the Famtrack program, a family literacy program.

The goals of this program are to give members the experience of reading and learning together as a family, and for parents to learn techniques to help their children gain a love of books and reading.

Monthly evening meetings at the Mission Library Family Reading Center include:

• dinner provided by Famtrack • reading a new children's book together as a family • doing a writing or craft activity related to the new book.

Families are given a copy of the new book they have read that night for their home library. Children in the program who have read enough books since last month's meeting to win the "Reading Challenge" also receive another new book to take home.

Famtrack builds and reinforces everyone in the family's literacy skills and helps them discover that time spent reading together brings them closer together.

Famtrack is funded through the California Library Services Act.
